Judge Beatriz Santiago of Chicago; lying loser

The state of Illinois presented Beatriz Santiago with a law license in 1996 after she graduated from the University of Chicago Law School.

The Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board has charged Judge Santiago with the following misconduct.

In November 2012, Beatriz duped the voters in Chicago into electing her as a Cook County judge.

Over the past sixteen (16) years, Beatriz has had her significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough. Before duping the voters into electing as a judge, Beatriz spent thirteen years as a Cook County Public Defender. Seems as though no self-respecting law firm was about to offer Beatriz a good paying job.

Beatriz is charged with making misrepresentations (lying) on a mortgage application regarding a residence that is outside the sub-circuit she won election from in November 2012.

In her candidate statement that she filed in 2011, Beatriz said she lived in a home owned by her parents on West Potomac Avenue in the city, placing her in the 6th Judicial Sub-circuit. Beatriz also owned property on North Spaulding Avenue in the 7th Judicial Sub-circuit.

Illinoislaw states that Beatriz would not have been eligible to run for a 6thSub-circuit vacancy if she, at the time of her candidacy, lived at the Spaulding address.

The complaint alleges that between June 2013 and March 2014, in regards to the refinancing of the Spaulding mortgage, Beatriz “attempted to and did deceive her mortgage lender by making several misrepresentations in her mortgage application documents that caused her lender to believe she intended to occupy the Spaulding property as her primary residence within 60 days of executing a mortgage agreement, when in fact she resided at another property and had no intention of establishing residency at the Spaulding property.” (ChicagoDaily Law Bulletin)

All that remains now is to see what if any p8unishment is meted out to Judge Santiago. She likely doesn’t have much to worry about in regards to the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court. At worst, she’ll likely receive a complimentary reprimand.
