Judge Joseph Scott of Redwood City, CA; drunken scofflaw

The state of Texas presented Joseph Craig Scott with a law license in 1976 after he graduated from UC Hastings Law School.

The California Commission on Judicial Performance found Judge Scott guilty of the following misconduct.

At about 12:30 a.m. on May 24, 2014, Scott was pulled over by Redwood City police while traveling northbound on Highway 101 near Woodside Road.

At the time, Judge Scott failed sobriety tests and was immediately arrested. A test showed that Scott had a had a blood-alcohol level of 0.12 percent, higher than the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

In 2003, former Gov. Gray Davis was duped into appointing Joseph Scott as a San Mateo County Superior Court judge. Scott wasn’t appointed because he was the most qualified attorney in the greater San Mateo County area. He received the appointment because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Judicial Misfits sitting on the California Commission on Judicial Performance punished Judge Moreland by gifting him with a complimentary admonishment.

As we speak (ca. January 2015), Judge Scott remains sitting (during bouts of sobriety) as a san Mateo County Superior Court judge in Redwood City, California.
