Judge Ted Royster Jr. of Lexington, NC; ethical elf

The state of North Carolina presented Ted S. Royster Jr. with a law license in 1973 after he graduated from Samford University School of Law.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission found Judge Royster guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in illegal ex parte (one-sided) communications
  • Entered an improper order in defense counsel’s favor after ex parte meeting
  • Approved order without taking any evidence in support of it
  • Found defendant in contempt for failing to comply with child support orders and ordered his arrest by denying defendant his due process rights
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Conduct brought judicial office into disrepute

As a consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the North Carolina State Supreme Court punished Teddy by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. January 2015) Teddy continues to sit as a Davidson County Superior Court Judge in Lexington, North Carolina.
