Judge William Estelle of Palmer, AK; serial liar

The state of New Jersey presented Philip J. Maenza with a law license in 1984 after he graduated from Duke University Law School.

Billy has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the last thirty-one years (ca. 1984 to 2014). Apparently, no self-respecting law firm was about to offer Billy a good paying job.

In 2003, former Gov. Frank Murkowski was duped into appointing Billy as a Superior Court judge. Billy didn’t receive the appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in the greater Anchorage area. He received it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

The Alaska Judicial Council found Judge Estelle guilty of the following misconduct.

Billy found it acceptable to file 16 false affidavits (aka, perjury) from September 2011 through February 2013 wherein he swore under oath that he had completed all cases assigned to him within the mandated time constraints.

Alaska law prohibits a judge from being paid if they have undecided cases outstanding before them for more than six (6) months. The Judicial Council stated that Billy signed affidavits saying he issued decisions in all cases pending before him within six months. As a result of Billy’s perjury, he continued to receive a regular salary.

In a lame effort at levity, Judge Keith Levy, Chief Comedian for the Alaska Judicial Council had the chutzpah to state:

  • “Witnesses, litigants, and other members of the public are held to a high standard by the court when completing affidavits.”
  • “Confidence in the administration of justice is eroded if judges are seen to be held to a lower standard of responsibility when completing a sworn statement, especially when financial compensation is at stake.”

One need not possess an I.Q. of 125 or more to fully understand that the sole reason that Billy submitted 16 false affidavits was to assure that he would continue to receive a paycheck. Anyone who believes otherwise is either an intellectual dwarf or a certified apologist for crooked judges.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Alaska Supreme Court punished Billy by gifting him with a complimentary 45-day suspension from his judicial position.

As we speak (ca. July 2014), Billy continues to sit as a Superior Court Judge in Palmer, Alaska.
