Attorney Winston Brown of Milwaukee; ethical elf
The state of Wisconsin presented Winston P. Brown with a law license in 1973 after he graduated from Marquette University Law School.
The Office of Lawyer Registration (OLR) found Winston guilty of the following misconduct.
- Failed to hold clients’ and third parties’ property in trust account
- Commingled client funds with personal funds
- Failed to promptly deliver funds owing to clients
- Improperly allowed earned fees to remain in trust account w/o disbursing them
- Used client funds to cover checks issued in matters relating to other clients
- Made misrepresentations (lied) to court in guardianship matter as to whether funds were being held in guardianship account
- Made a misrepresentation (lied) to ethics investigators (Up yours, said Winston!)
- Failed to reconcile trust account over 4-year period of time
- Failed to maintain complete trust account records
- Failed to promptly notify clients of receipt of funds belonging to clients
As a consequence of his misconduct, the Wisconsin Supreme Court punished Winston by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.
As we speak (ca. November 2014), Winston practices with the Law Office of Attorney Winston Brown at 8503 Stickney Avenue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
