Attorney Kenneth Schuman of Garfield Heights, OH; convict

The state of Ohio provided Brian Kenneth Anthony Schuman with a law license in 1997 after he graduated from Cleveland State University Law School.

In one matter, Kenny pleaded guilty to having an unlawful interest in a public contract, a fourth-degree felony.

Kenny’s criminal conduct involved a contract for bond work that he awarded in his official capacity to the Cleveland law firm of Vorys, Sater Seymour & Pease. After it was paid by the city, the law firm illegally paid Schuman $9,500.

Kenny was also charged with bribery, soliciting or receiving improper compensation, money laundering, theft in office, obstructing justice, falsification and soliciting.

After pleading guilty as aforementioned, Kenny was sentenced to six-months in jail and fined $2,500.

Shortly thereafter, the Ohio Supreme Court tentatively suspended Kenny’s law license; however, he had not been disbarred, which means there a distinct possibility that once he’s has released form prison he may have his law license reinstated.

As we speak (ca. October 2014), Kenny works pro bono as a jailhouse lawyer while serving time in the Cuyahoga County Jail.
