Judge Richard Markus of Cleveland; Moron; ethical leper-con, loser
Unfortunately, Judge Richard Markus has been repeatedly appointed as a visiting retired judge by Chief Justice Thomas Moyer since at least 1998 through Feb. 2010.
Even more unfortunate is the fact that Chief Justice Moyer assigned Judge Richard Markus to sit on numerous cases in Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Columbus and Youngstown. In addition, Moyer assigned Judge Markus to sit on county courts in Ashland, Ashtabula, Clark, Coshocton, Delaware, Erie, Fairfield, Huron, Jefferson, Knox, Lake, Licking, Madison, Medina, Morrow, Ottawa, Richland, Scioto and Trumbull.
 
Many of these assignments by Chief Justice Thomas Moyer involved corrupt politicians who were friends and/or associates of Moyer. Other appointments involved enemies, real and/or perceived of Chief Justice Thomas Moyer. Put simply, Judge Richard Markus was and has been a compliant member of Chief Justice Thomas Moyer’s “hit team” of unethical retired judges for many, many years.
In addition to being a certified Moron, Judge Richard Markus also finds it acceptable to hose the taxpayers of Ohio by billing for hours he never worked as an assigned visiting retired judge.
In 2001, Judge Richard Markus presided over the corruption trial of Avon Lake Mayor Vincent Urbin who was convicted of having an unlawful interest in a public contract, tampering with evidence and being complicit in evidence tampering.
At Judge Markus’ request, a parole officer wrote letters to editors of newspapers in the Cleveland area “to inquire whether they had any comment or recommendation regarding an appropriate sentence.” The letters went to the Avon Lake Press, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Chronicle-Telegram in Elyria and the Morning Journal of Lorain.
Mike Ferrari, editor of the Avon Lake Press refused Judge Markus’ request and said, “It is our job to report the news, not create it.” Prosecutor Gregory White filed an objection to Markus’ request and said, “This case is too important to this community to even appear to have been reduced to a political exercise or public popularity/opinion poll.”
The local prosecutor called Judge Richard Markus’ request “illegal and improper,” which it clearly was; however, Judge Markus was never disciplined for his illegal and moronic conduct. In fact, Judge Markus continued to be appointed by Ohio Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer to even more cases through 2010.
When there is an allegedly sensitive political corruption case involving someone associated with Chief Justice Moyer and/or his associates/friends, he seems to always appoint Judge Markus to sit on the case. The same is true of whistleblowers that have spent a great deal of time exposing judicial corruption in Ohio, including corruption involving Judge Markus and/or Chief Justice Moyer.
One must question the efficacy and motivation behind Chief Justice Moyer’s repeated appointments of Markus to these types of cases. The outcomes are very questionable and in many instances favor the corrupt politician and/or deal significant harm to the whistleblowers.
Judge Richard Markus also operates a so-called “Rent-a-Judge” operation out of his home in Cleveland. Markus charges $290 an hour for his so-called judicial expertise; however, he refuses to disclose the names of those who pay him this unwarranted amount. Markus has failed to disclose the names of those who have employed him on his annual financial disclosure statements even though such disclosures are mandatory.
Conclusion
With nearly 200 retired judges in Ohio available to sit on cases when a sitting judge is unavailable, how is it remotely possible for Chief Justice Thomas Moyer to continue to appoint a celebrated moron and ethical leper-con like Judge Richard Markus?
