Judge Curtis Person of Memphis; loser, lifetime porker, arrogant

The state of Tennessee presented Curtis C. Person with a law license in 1959 after he graduated from the University of Mississippi Law School.

Curtis has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the last forty-six (46) years. Curtis spent 40 years as a chief referee and chief legal officer of the Shelby County Juvenile Court. He spent 38 years as a state representative and Senator.

Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Memphis area was about to offer Curtis a good paying job.

In April 2014, Shelby County Commissioner Henry Brooks filed an ethics complaint against Curtis with the Tennessee Board of Judicial Conduct.

Mr. Brooks’ complaint claims the following misconduct:

  • Failed to promote public confidence in the independence of the judiciary
  • Displayed bias and prejudice in performance of judicial duties
  • Swayed by partisan interests
  • Made public statements negatively impacting on the fairness of matters pending before him
  • Publicly endorsed or opposed a candidate for public office

Judge Person’s main complaint about Mr. Brooks was the fact that he had announced his candidacy for Shelby County Clerk, a position that has some authority over Person’s court. Put simply, Person the Lifer wasn’t about to have some young whippersnapper question his authority.

All that’s left now is to see what if any punishment is meted out to Judge Person for his misconduct.
