Attorney Suzanne Smith of Burlington, WI; lying loser

The state of Wisconsin presented Suzanne Marie Smith with a law license in 1995 after she graduated from Marquette University Law School.

The Office of Lawyer Registration (OLR) found Suzy guilty of 20 counts of misconduct involving 4 different matters.

  1. Failed to promptly deposit checks in her trust account
  2. Failed to promptly apply funds towards payment of property taxes owed by parties
  3. Failed to respond to inquiry from opposing counsel re: status of funds
  4. Failed to provide a written accounting after distribution of funds to county treasurer
  5. Failed to timely prepare final order re: parties’ stipulation
  6. Failed to provide client with copy of signed stipulation
  7. Billed for travel and appearance at hearing she did not attend (crook)
  8. Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Up Yours, said Suzy!)
  9. Made misrepresentations (lied) to ethics investigators
  10. Failed to provide competent representation (Dumbo)
  11. Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  12. Failed to timely file a notice of appeal
  13. Exhibited a pattern of dishonesty, deceit, or misrepresentation
  14. Made false representations to client
  15. Allowed deadlines to file appeals to lapse
  16. Failed to comply with order emanating from Circuit Court
  17. Repeatedly made false claims to trial court
  18. Misconduct involved multiple offenses

As one would suspect, this wasn’t Suzy’s First Bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. She previously received a complimentary reprimand for engaging in a variety of misconduct.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme Court punished Suzy by gifting her with a complimentary 6-month suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. August 2014) Susan practices with the Law Office of Suzanne M. Smith in Burlington, Wisconsin.
