Attorney Shirley Sutherland of Rockwall, TX; ethical misfit

The state of Texas presented Shirley Sutherland with a law license in 1986 after she graduated from Southern Methodist University (SMU) Law School.

The District 7 Grievance Committee found Shirley guilty of the following misconduct.

• Neglected legal matter entrusted to her
• Failed to appear at court hearing on client’s behalf
• Failed to advise client of court filings
• Failed to advise client of scheduled hearing date
• Failed to respond to client requests for information
• Engaged in a conflict of interest

As a consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Shirley by gifting her with a complimentary stayed 3-monthsuspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Texas Supreme Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Shirley.
