Judge Leslie Spillane of Hamilton, OH; greedy, ethically elf, serial scofflaw

From 1982 through 2004, Judge Leslie Spillane of Butler County, Ohio (25 miles north of Cincinnati) was sat as a County and/or Common Pleas Judge.

Serial Scofflaw

On Jan. 7, 2003, the Cincinnati Enquirer did a story titled: County commissioners ask judges to stop false testimony. (http://tinyurl.com/y9kaum9)

The County Commissioners sent Judge Leslie Spillane, Administrative Judge of the Domestic Relations (Family) Court and judges Sharon Kennedy, David Niehaus and Ronald Craft asking them to “attack the general problems of false statements in your courts” and to punish perjurers. (Cincinnati Enquirer)

It is astonishing to say the least that the Commissioners felt compelled to demand that Judge Leslie Spillane, et al. comply with the oath of office they took as judges.

Judge Leslie Spillane had the chutzpah to state that in her court was “a miniscule problem.” “I think the commissioners are making false assumptions based on a few cases,” she said. She went on to say that in her 20 years on the bench, she had referred two [2] people for prosecution on charges of perjury. In a rather lame attempt at levity, Judge Spillane said that except for proven egregious instances of lying [perjury], it would be impractical to prosecute everyone who fails to be truthful in court.

Every time Judge Leslie Spillane gave a “wink and a nod” to perjury in her court she violated Ohio Revised Code §2921.22. Failure to report a crime, which states: “No person, knowing that a felony [perjury is a felony] has been or is being committed, shall knowingly fail to report such information to law enforcement authorities.”

In cases involving child-custody disputes, the accuracy of testimony pro or con by a court-appointed guardian ad litem and/or the parents must in every instance be “the absolute truth.” For a judge to acknowledge perjury in her/his court and not take report it to the prosecutor is appalling.

Judge Leslie Spillane and the Greed Factor

In 2004, Judge Spillane decided to retire from the bench. She then embarked on a career as a rent-a-judge beginning in 2005. However, in 2004 she hosed the taxpayers by spending at least one week at Harvard Law School attending a “40-hour Mediation Workshop.”

Judge Leslie Spillane has the temerity to bill $350 an hour plus her expenses for so-called rent-a-judge services, which is almost six (6) times as much as full time judge in Ohio earns. She has the unmitigated gall to state on her self-serving Web site: “I believe that I am uniquely qualified to hear and decide domestic relations matters in a private forum.” This hyperbolic (BS) statement flies in the face of the numerous complaints of conduct on the bench.

Anyone who would volunteer to pay Judge Leslie Spillane $350 an hour; $2,800 for one day or $14,000 for one week are likely seeking to purchase a favorable ruling from her.

Conclusion

So much for giving back to the community (taxpayers) by this so-called public official after spending nearly 30 years with her snout firmly implanted in the public trough. Judge Leslie Spillane, like many, many of her fellow compatriots (retired judges) both in Ohio and throughout the country have taken greed to new and as yet unseen levels by acting as rent-a-judges. They have the chutzpah to charge $300 to as much as $1,500 an hour for their so-called services.
