Judge Katherine Lias of Columbus, OH; ethically moribund
Up until 2007, Judge Katherine Lias sat as a Domestic (family) and Juvenile Court judge in Columbus, Ohio. During much of her tenure on the bench she was the Administrative Judge.
In the late 1990s, Judge Katherine Lias was provided with irrefutable evidence that retired visiting judge Stephen Yarbrough was bilking the citizens of Franklin County (Columbus) and the State of Ohio by billing for hours he never worked and/or for travel and lodging expenses he could not possibly have incurred.
Put simply, Judge Katherine Lias was in possession of drop-dead documentary evidence proving that Judge Stephen Yarbrough was a “serial thief.”
Despite overwhelming evidence that Judge Stephen Yarbrough was a certified thief, Judge Katherine Lias continued to assign him to the Domestic Court for the next several years, thereby allowing Yarbrough to continue to rape the local citizenry, which he cheerfully did.
Despite her obvious ethical shortcomings, Chief Justice Thomas Moyer determined that Judge Katherine Lias “merited” repeated appointments as a visiting retire judge.
When will the appointment of ethically indigent retired judges in Ohio come to a halt? When is enough, enough?
