Judge Dennis Powers of Novi, MI; thieving loser

The state of Michigan presented Dennis N. Powers with a law license in 1975 after he graduated from the University of Detroit Law School.

Former Gov. John Engler was duped into appointing Denny as a District Court Judge in 1998. Denny didn’t receive the appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in the greater Detroit area. He received it because he was had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

The Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission recently (June 2014) charged Denny with the following misconduct.

  1. Submitted false travel expense reports
  2. Submitted false mileage expense reports
  3. Routinely skipped work
  4. Misused county-issued cell phone and laptop computer
  5. Repeatedly showed up late for work
  6. Illegally sentenced 35-year-old DUI defendant under Michigan’s Youthful Trainee Act that only applies to 17 and 21 year old defendants
  7. Illegally reduced fines and penalties for former sheriff’s deputy charged with disorderly conduct who made death threats against Judge Brian MacKenzie

Denny was specifically accused of racking up $2,000 in cell phone charges over a 11 month period of time. He used an international calling feature while vacationing in Aruba to make 23 phone calls and send 86 messages. (Oakland Press)

The 53-page complaint alleges that shortly after a 2013 WJBK-TV investigation of Denny, he told court staff that there was a “rat” or a “snitch” among them.

Oakland County records proved that Denny illegally charged the county for gas, cell phone bills and golf outings. He also had taken extended breaks when he was required to be on the bench.

Because Judicial Misfits in Michigan are held to a lower standard of conduct, Denny hasn’t been criminally charged for theft, etc.

All that remains now is to see what if any punishment the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Michigan Surpeme Court mete out to Denny the Thief.

Had Denny bilked the taxpayers by submitting false travel and mileage expenses in Ohio, he would have never faced any disciplinary charges. In fact, in Ohio a judge who submits fraudulent claims for travel and mileage expenses is permitted to retain the ill-gotten funds. In fact, in one instance, the offending judge’s punishment was being promoted to the Court of Appeals.

Maybe Denny’s lawyer should utilize Ohio law in defending Denny before the Michigan Supreme Court.

As we speak (ca. June 2014), Denny remains sitting as a District Court Judge in Novi, Michigan, which is a suburb of Detroit.
