Attorney Edward Seltzer of Charlotte; serial offender, thief

The state of North Carolina presented Edward D. Seltzer with a law license in 1980 after he graduated from North Carolina Central University Law School. 

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Eddie guilty of the following misconduct.

Eddie’s 1^st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree – 1994

• Neglected a legal matter entrusted to him
• Paid client’s traffic ticket without client’s consent
• Failed to communicate with client
• Failed to timely cooperate with disciplinary agency (Up Yours, said Eddie!)

As a consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Eddie by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

Eddie’s 2^nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree – 1994

• Failed to communicate with client
• Neglected a legal matter entrusted to him

• Failed to return repeated calls from client
• Failed to keep client informed of status of legal matter
• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)

As a consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Eddie by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

Eddie’s 5^th bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree – 1994

1. Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
2. Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
3. Intentionally damaged or prejudiced his client (victim)
4. Failed to sufficiently explain matter to client to allow client to make informed decisions re: representation
5. Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
6. Misconduct involved multiple offenses
7. Failed to refund unearned fees (cheater)
8. Failed to abide by client decisions re: objectives of representation
9. Failed to give proper notice when withdrawing representation of client
10. Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
11. Collected a clearly excessive fee (thief)
12. Failed to cooperate with disciplinary agency (Up Yours, said Eddie!)

As a consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Eddie by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 3-year suspension of his license. 

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Disciplinary Committee didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Eddie.
