Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore; Loony Bigot

The state of Alabama presented Roy Stewart Moor with a law license in 1977 after he graduated from the University of Alabama Law School.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) found G.K. guilty of the following misconduct.

Several years ago Roy was removed as the Chief Justice after he refused to comply with a federal court order to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments that he had illegally placed on the grounds of the Alabama Supreme Court.

After being soundly defeated in his attempt to be elected as the Governor of Alabama, Roy then succeeded in duping the voters of Alabama into electing him again as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.

During a recent (05/02/14) speech at the Pastor for Life Luncheon sponsored by Pro-Life Mississippi, Roy declared that the First Amendment only applied to Christians because “Buddha didn’t create us, Mohammed didn’t create us, it was the God of the Holy Scripture” who created us.

Loony Roy went on to say:

  • “They didn’t bring the Koran over on the pilgrim ship.”
  • “Let’s get real, let’s go back and learn our history. Let’s stop playing games.”
  • “You can’t be happy unless you follow God’s law, and if you follow God’s law, you can’t help but be happy.”
  • “It’s all about God.”

If you’re a practicing Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu or an Atheist, you can be assured that you’ll get treated with total contempt by Roy and those of his ilk if you are involved in litigation that finds its way before the Alabama Supreme Court.

It is patently clear that Roy has violated the Alabama Code of Judicial Conduct as set forth below:

Canon 1 – A judge should uphold integrity and independence of the judiciary

Canon 2 – A judge should avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety in all his activities.”

Canon 3 – A judge should be faithful to the law and maintain professional competence in it.”

For a state chief justice to openly declare that anyone who isn’t a Christian isn’t protected by the First Amendment has clearly engaged in conduct that brings the judiciary into disrepute. Moreover, his conduct clearly goes beyond the “appearance of impropriety.”

More importantly, Roy’s comments regarding so-called Non-Christians are not protected by the First Amendment is clearly a violation of Canon 3.

And lastly, Roy’s comments clearly indicate that he is a die-in-the-wool bigot who has total contempt for Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims and in particular Atheists.

The Alabama Judicial Commission should rightfully file ethics charges against Roy for his outrageous conduct as aforementioned. And this time, in addition to removing him from the bench, they should revoke his law license, which would forever bar him from seeking judicial office in the future.
