Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK): Today’s “Humanitarian” Award Winner

This isn’t the first Award presented to Tommy. In the past, he has been the recipient of four (4) Awards.  Those awards are listed at the end of this article and can be viewed by going to the listed category.

In a recent (05/01/14) rant regarding upping the minimum wage to $10.10, Tommy said he opposed it because increasing it by even a dollar would have a detrimental effect on the economy. Tommy went on to say:

“I don’t believe you ought to interfere in the market.”

“If there’s to be a minimum wage, my theory is, if Oklahomans want a minimum wage, we ought to have it.”

“I don’t believe there ought to be a national minimum wage.”

Tommy is the only humanitarian from the Republican party who is still in Congress who voted against raising the minimum wage in 2007.

It’s obvious that Tommy seeks to turn the clock back to the good old days when the States weren’t burdened with federal minimum wages laws as set for the below.

Oklahoma

1991 to 2005 – Minimum wage = $2.00 for employers with 10 or less full-time employees

Ohio

1991 to 2005 – Minimum wage = $3.35 for employers with gross annual sales from $150,000 to $500,000

Kansas

1991 to 2009 – Minimum wage = $2.65

Texas

1988 to 2001 – Minimum wage = $3.35

Wyoming

1976 to 2001 – Minimum wage = $1.60

If Tommy and those of his ilk have their way, employers in Oklahoma can reduce the state minimum wage to $2.00 an hour or less for employers with 10 or less full-time employees.

And Tommy’s fellow Humanitarians in Texas will be able to invoke a state minimum wage of $3.35 or less per hour.

All that stands in the way of Tommy’s wish for a return to State’s Rights in reducing the minimum wage by 60 or more percent is for the GOP to win control of the Senate in November 2014 and the Whitehouse in 2016. And if that happens, then we should see the end of the federal minimum wage law.

Congrats Tommy; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of Americas Least Appreciated “Humanitarians”; you are far too humble.

  1. Homophobe Award Winner = 1

  3. Potty Mouth Moron Award Winner = 1 – Moron Awards
