Judge Brian Mackenzie of Novi, MI; loser, lifetime porker

The state of Michigan presented Brian W. Mackenzie with a law license in 1974 after he graduated from Wayne State University Law School in Detroit.

Since graduating from law school, Brian has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past forty (40) years. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the Detroit area was about to offer Brian a good paying job.

In January 1988, former Gov. James Blanchard was duped into appointing Brian as a Fifty-Second District Court Judge in Novi. Brian didn’t get the appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in the Detroit area. He got it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

In the recent past, Judge Mackenzie was secretly taped while offering to free a drunk-driving suspect from jail if the suspect agreed not to file a police brutality lawsuit against arresting officers.

The suspect’s attorney, Timothy Corr, said he made the secret recording after a previous meeting with Judge Mackenzie during which the judge offered to waive jail time if his client promised not to sue the Walled Lake police department. (Detroit Free Press)

Several times during the 14-minute tape recording, Judge Mackenzie is heard telling attorney Corr to get his client not to sue police in exchange for his freedom. The judge then tells Corr:

“Give up the civil suit, and I can get you something decent.”

Subsequently, the lawsuit filed against the police by Corr’s client resulted in a settlement of $150,000, which was based on a video that proved that the client was the victim of police brutality.

As we speak (ca. April 2014), Brian the Lifer remains sitting on the bench in Novi, Michigan which is a suburb of Detroit.
