Attorney David Dorfman of Princeton, NJ; convicted Dumbo

The state of New York presented David Alan Dorfman with a law license in 1992 after he graduated from Boston University Law School.

The Departmental Disciplinary Committee for the First Judicial Department in New York found David guilty of the following misconduct.

1. Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
2. Failed to provide competent legal representation (Dumbo)
3. Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on his fitness to practice law
4. Neglected a legal matter entrusted to him
5. Convicted of criminal contempt by federal judge and sentenced to 30 days in jail
6. Engaged in a pattern of deception
7. Faield to accept responsibility for his egregious misconduct

In one matter, David lied to a client, Ricky Baker, in a resume in regards to being hired by Baker to file a lawsuit against the New York City Dept of Health as a result of a medical testing error. However, David failed to file a timely notice of claim that resulted in the dismissal of the action.

Subsequently, Ricky sued David for legal malpractice and fraud. A federal jury found that David had induced Ricky to hire him by furnishing a resume that patently misrepresented his experience as a litigator. The jury awarded Ricky $360,000 in compensatory and punitive damages of $25,000.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the patron saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the State Disciplinary Commission punished David by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. March 2014), David practices at 305 Trinity Court in Princeton, New Jersey.
