Attorney Mark Hellerud of Fargo, ND; cheating loser

The state of Colorado provided Mark R. Hellerud with a law license in 1983 after he graduated from Hamline University Law School.

The Disciplinary Board found Mark guilty of the following misconduct.

• Billed client $275 an hour for his time and his legal assistant
• Did not distinguish between his time and assistant’s time on his client billing sheet
• Failed to provide basis, rate, or amount of attorney’s fees to his client
• Clearly charged excessive fees
• Failed to adequately communicate with client
• Order to refund $5,651 in overcharges to his client

Mark’s Hyperbolic (BS) defense

As to billing $275 an hour for his legal assistants work and his own, Mark had the chutzpah to blame the overcharging on a billing system that would not allow for different rates to be separated. Clearly, Mark missed his calling as a Standup Comedian!

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the North Dakota Supreme Court punished Mark by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.
