Judge Patrick Curran of Cleveland hosing taxpayers for unearned wages
Despite the fact that Cleveland area voters deemed that Judge Patrick Curran did not merit reelection in Nov. 2002, Chief Justice Thomas Moyer determined otherwise when he lobbied ex-Gov. Bob Taft to appoint Curran to a judgeship for one-week so that Moyer could then appoint him to active status as a visiting retired judge.
Clearly, the voters in Cleveland were right in determining that Judge Curran did not merit election. A cursory review of Judge Patton’s wage claims as a visiting retired judge clearly indicated that he was unethical in that he consistently billed for wages he was not entitled to and/or for hours he never worked.
Since Judge Curran lived Cuyahoga County (Cleveland) he was not lawfully entitled to any wages for time spent traveling from his home to the Cuyahoga County courthouse. The table below is but one example of Judge Curran hosing the public by obtaining wages he was not entitled too.
When Chief Justice Thomas Moyer was advised of this unlawful conduct, he deemed that Judge Curran merited additional appointments as a visiting retired judge. In fact, Chief Justice Thomas Moyer has continued to appoint Judge Curran through January 2010.
Conclusion
So much for Chief Justice Thomas Moyer’s hyperbolic support to do away with judicial elections in Ohio in favor of merit appointments, right?
