Attorney Richard Alkire of Cleveland; arrogant, ethical gnome

On his web site, attorney Richard Alkire touts himself as practicing in the areas of Legal Ethics, Professional (attorney) Responsibility, Attorney Discipline, Attorney Grievances and Judicial Discipline.

From 1997 to 2002, attorney Richard Alkire was appointed by Chief Justice Thomas Moyer as a Commissioner on the Ohio Supreme Court Board of Commissioners and Grievances. He was the chair of the Commission from 2001 to 2003.

Travel expense records obtained from the Ohio Supreme Court show that attorney Richard Alkire had the audacity to bill for the following travel expenses to attend attorney disciplinary hearings.
  • $687 – 02/25/00 to fly from Cleveland to Dayton
  • $727 – 11/06/00 to fly from Cleveland to Dayton
It is but 212 miles from Cleveland to Dayton and it would only take about 3.5 hours to make the drive on Interstate 70 that runs directly from Cleveland to Dayton. Who in the world would approve of allowing some buffoon (my apologies to buffoons) to bill the taxpayers for flying from Cleveland to Dayton?

In 2002, the federal mileage rate was $0.32, meaning that it would have only cost the taxpayers of Ohio $135.68 rather than $700 had attorney Richard Alkire driven to Dayton like any other normal government employee in Ohio.

The Supreme Court of Ohio limited reimbursement for lodging expenses in 2000 to $92, which was of course applicable to attorney Richard Alkire. However, since Richard Alkire doesn’t believe the rules apply to him, he billed the state $120.38 for one nights stay in Columbus on August 11, 2000.

To further cement his status as an arrogant Whatchmakallit, on several occasions in 2000 and 2001, attorney Richard Alkire had the chutzpah to bill $15 and/or $18 for valet parking in downtown Columbus. Parking in downtown Columbus could be found for $4-5 in this timeframe because that’s what I paid on my numerous trips during this time.

How in the world can someone of attorney Richard Alkire’s ilk (FYI: Mr. Alkire, Ilk is not a male Elk!) be allowed to sit and judge the conduct of attorneys and/or judges in Ohio?

Apparently if you’re connected to Chief Justice Thomas Moyer and/or more importantly willing to don a pair of industrial strength knee pads to do his bidding, I guess someone like Mr. Richard Alkire merited repeated appointments to the Disciplinary Commission. Isn’t Ohio a wonderful country?

If you live in the Cleveland, Ohio area I would suggest that you might want to steer clear of this fellow!
