Attorney Elizabeth Coker of Livingston, TX; ethical leprechaun
The state of Florida presented Elizabeth Evelyn Coker with a law license in 1992 after she graduated from Baylor University Law School.
Liz’s misconduct came about while she was sitting on the bench of the 258th District Court of Polk, Trinity, and San Jacinto Counties.
The Texas Judicial Commission found Judge Coker guilty of the following misconduct.
During a trial, Judge Coker found it acceptable to text instructions from the bench to a Polk County Assistant DA Jones who was assisting in the prosecution of case in Coker’s court. The investigation proved that this wasn’t the only time that Coker engaged in this type of misconduct.
Coker used Jones to privately communicate information about the Reeves cast to another assistant DA; to suggest questions for the prosecutor to ask during the trial; to ensure that a witness was able to refresh his memory and rehabilitate his testimony by reviewing his videotaped interview with law enforcement before he took the stand for the second time the following day; and to discuss legal issues pertinent to the case in an unsuccessful effort to assist the State to obtain a guilty verdict in the case.
Coker apparently felt it was her duty as a Judge to assure that anyone appearing in her courtroom was convicted even if they were innocent. What a gal! You have to wonder how in the hell this certified loser ever ascended to the bench in the first place.
As a consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Liz by allowing her to resign from the bench.
