Judge Beth Harlan of Bartow, FL; thieving loser
The state of Florida presented Beth with a law license in 1982 after she graduated from the University of Florida Law School.
Judge Harlan sits as a Circuit Court Judge for Polk County. In September 2013 Judge Harlan and her former judicial assistant were arrested on charges of a scheme to defraud and grand theft that resulted from an investigation by the State Attorney’s Office that began after allegations of a sex scandal at the Polk County Courthouse.
According to the criminal complaint, Judge Harlan and Alisha Rupp conspired to falsify Rupp’s time sheets so that Rupp would get paid for time that she did not work. An affidavit attached to the criminal complaint states in part:
“Judge Harlan appears to have not only known, but approved of this blatant waste of taxpayer dollars through her irresponsible supervision of Alisha Rupp.”
Within a week of being criminally charged with grand theft, Judge Harlan agreed to a voluntary suspension of her judicial duties until the criminal matter was concluded.
Harlan’s voluntary suspension allows her to continue to receive her $142,000 annual salary plus thousands in benefits. Put simply, the accused crook will receive a weekly check from the taxpayers of $2,730 even though she isn’t performing any services. Who was the comedian that said crime doesn’t pay?
All that’s left now is to await the outcome of the criminal charges pending against Beth. I’m betting that Beth’s lawyer will drag this case out as long as possible so that she can continue to be paid and then just before the trial is to commence, she’ll plead guilty.
