Attorney Lorna Brown of Berkeley, CA; ethical gremlin

The state of Georgia presented Lorna Patton Brown with a law license in 1988 after she graduated from the University of California Hastings Law School in San Francisco.

The Calfiornia State Bar has charged Lorna with the following misconduct.

As we speak (ca. September 2013), Lorna practices at 1017 Miller Avenue in Berkeley, Calfiornia.

It is alleged that Lorna smuggled documents, including an alleged hit list, out of an Alameda County  jail in 2010 for her then-client, former Your Black Muslin Bakery leader Yusuf Bey IV. (Thomas Peele, San Jose Mercury News)

In June 2012, the Calfiornia Supreme Court rejected a plea deal that Lorna reached with the State Bar wherein she would receive a two-year suspension of her law license. The Court ordered that new charges alleging that Lorna repeatedly lied to DA investigators when first confronted be investigated.

In a lame attempt at levity, Lorna admitted taking the papers out of the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, but laughingly said she thought she was delivering recipe for pumpkin pie, I’m sorry I mean a love letter.

All that remains now is to see what punishment the Calfiornia Supreme Court metes out to this weasel attorney. Hopefully, they will permanently disbar her.

And if Lorna is permanently disbarred she can always obtain gainful employment as a greeter at the Sam’s Club in Oakland. And if that doesn’t pan out, the Stone Soup Improv comedy club in Berkeley is always looking for aspiring standup comedians.
