Attorney Clayton Howard of Damariscotta, ME; ethical misfit

The state of Maine presented Clayton N. Howard with a law license in 1969 after he graduated from the University of Maine Law School.

The Maine Grievance Commission found Clayton guilty of the following misconduct.
  • Engaged in a conflict of interest
  • Failed to properly supervise attorneys in his office
In one matter, Andrew Howard, Clayton’s younger broth and Linda Howard the former wife of Andrew were divorced in the Maine District Court in York County.

Over a period of ten years, a partner in Clayton’s represented Andrew throughout the divorce and the appeal to the Law Court. Apparently, Clayton missed classes at law school dealing with conflicts of interest.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the grievance panel punished Clayton by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. August 2013) Clayton practices with Howard & Bowie in Damariscotta, Maine.
