Attorney Paul Swanseen of Mill Valley, CA; ethical dwarf

The state of California provided Paul Swanseen with a law license in 1988 after he graduated from Loyola University Law School in Los Angeles.

The State Bar Court found Paul guilty of misconduct

Paul was accepted into the State Bar’s Alternative Discipline Program for lawyers with mental health of substance abuse problems. Three of the matters of misconduct involved Paul’s use of methamphetamines and the fourth from a conviction for driving with a suspended license. While the van was in Paul’s possession, it was damaged.

In one matter, Paul represented a client in a criminal case and entered into a fee agreement in which the client’s father transferred title and custody of his van to Swanseen as collateral for a retainer and legal fees. Although Swanseen agreed not to drive the van, he put 7,423 miles on it.

In another criminal case, Paul failed to appear at several hearings and did not notify the court that his client had died. The trial court then sanction Paul $1,500; however, he failed to report the sanction to the State Bar as required.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the supporters for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Bar Court punished Paul by gifting him with a complimentary 60-daysuspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. July 2013) Paul practices at 14 Matilda Avenue in Mill Valley, California, which is located in Marin County.
