In one matter, Michael was hired to handle a civil lawsuit against his clients. He was hired to negotiate a settlement of a secured debt of $10,000 owed by a married couple; they understood that if no settlement were reached, they would be responsible for the full amount plus interest and attorney fees.

Michael failed to tell the clients their case was referred to arbitration and also didn’t tell them of the hearing date so they did not appear. The arbitrator ruled against Mike’s clients to the tune of $12,750. Making matters worse, Mike never notified his clients about the arbitration award.

Mike subsequently filed a request for a trial re: the arbitrator’s ruling; however, he again failed to tell the clients about the trial date, so they didn’t appear and a judgment of $13,211 was lodged against them by the trial court.
As a consequence of his misconduct, the supporters for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Bar Court punished Michael by gifting him with a stayed 90-day suspension of his law license.
