The state of Louisiana presented Richard E. Lee with a law license in 1964 after he graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU) Law School.
The Office of Disciplinary Counsel found Richard guilty of the following misconduct.
In one matter, Richard represented the defendant in a custody and child support case. The trial court convened a pre-hearing conference in chambers with counsel and court personnel in attendance. At the beginning of the conference, opposing counsel told the judge of his intention to file a motion to recuse the judge and asked if the judge would do so voluntarily.
When Judge Ryland agreed to recuse himself, Richard attacked him by disparaging his masculinity. When the judge admonished Richard to not make any more such remarks, Richard answered “I’ll fucking decide when it’s enough.” Later that day, Richard called for the judge but when Ms. Guinn told him he was unavailable, Richard told Ms. Guinn to “kiss his fucking ass” and hung up the phone.
As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Louisiana Supreme Court punished Richard by gifting him with a stayed 90-day suspension of his law license.
As we speak (ca. July 2013) Richard practices at 810 Main Street in Pineville, Louisiana.
