Attorney Eric Brittain of Taupo, New Zealand; ethical goblin  The state of Wisconsin presented Eric S. Brittain with a law license in 2003 after he graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
The Office of Lawyer Registration found Donald guilty of the following misconduct.
Eric’s misconduct arose out of his so-called representation of clients in two criminal matters. In the first matter, Eric made an opening statement in which he told the jury about his own personal circumstances. The trial judge admonished Brittain not to reflect on personal matters in his opening statement. Thereafter, Brittain approached the client, put his hands on the client’s shoulders, and said to the jury, “I know … a brave man when I see one.”
Subsequently, the trial judge admonished Eric about his improper conduct. When Eric continued his improper conduct, the judge found him guilty of contempt of court.
In the second matter, Eric represented a client at an arraignment. After submitting the defendant’s not-guilty plea, Eric initiated an exchange with the trial judge regarding discovery demands. After the judge told Eric she had adjourned the matter and instructed him to file a motion on the matter, he disregard her instructions and told her that he behavior was “inappropriate.”
As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme Court punished Eric by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.
