Attorney Christopher Duren of Waunakee, WI; lying loser

The state of Wisconsin presented Christopher W. Duren with a law license in 1997.

The Office of Lawyer Regulation (OLR) found Christopher guilty of the following misconduct

In one matter, Christopher represented a client charged with second-offense cases for driving under the influence (DUI) in Juneau and Dane counties. The client had a previous DUI conviction two years earlier. T he Juneau Count y case was filed shortly after the Dane County case; however, the Juneau case was resolved first.

Five days after the Juneau case was resolved, Christopher was present with his client in Dane County circuit court, where the client entered a no-contest plea to the second-offense DUI. The trial judge presiding at the plea and sentencing hearing was unaware that Chris’s client had just been convicted of DUI second-offense in Juneau County.

During the sentencing hearing in Dane County, the judge asked Christopher about the joint sentence recommendation, in light of what she viewed as “a high blood alcohol level for a minimum jail sentence recommendation.” The judge specifically asked Christopher, “Do you have anything more to say regarding the rationale behind that or any reason why it’s a minimum jail sentence?”

In responding, Chris represented to the court that his client’s last DUI conviction was in 2002. Chris’s statement to the court was patently false, and he knew it was false, because he had been present five days earlier when his client was convicted of DUE second-offense in Juneau County circuit court.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme Courts punished Christopher by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. June 2013), Christopher practices with Duren Law Office LLC at 101 East Main Street in Waunakee, Wisconsin.
