Attorney William DiMento of Swampscott, MA; Dufus

The state of Massachusetts presented William R. DiMento with a law license in 1972 after he graduated from Suffolk University Law School.

The Board of Bar Overseers found William guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, William was hired to represent a client in a personal injury case. Due to the client’s advanced age and other medical conditions, she was hospitalized for over one month. William didn’t have a personal injury background, and his legal practice consisted almost exclusively of land use matters. He had previously advised the client on land use.

While he was negotiating a settlement with the other driver’s insurer, William failed to obtain an itemization of the medical expenses related to the accident that were paid by Medicare, which Medicare was lawfully entitled to recover from any settlement. The insurer didn’t issue a settlement check because William advised he was attempting to settle the Medicare lien. However, William mistakenly believed the Medicare expenses were significant and would reduce the settlement proceeds to little or nothing. Due to his gross incompetence, William never asked Medicare for an itemization of bills it had paid. Moreover, he never settled the Medicare lien.

Shortly after the client died, William filed a petition for administration, and the client’s daughter was appointed administrator. For over three (3) years, the daughter repeatedly called William for information about the status of the Medicare lien. William repeatedly told he was working on resolving the lien and would soon have it resolved when, in fact, he did not know hot to settle the lien. Making matters worse, Bill the Dufus took no meaningful steps to towards resolving the lien problem.

Subsequently, William the Moron hired an experience attorney who was able to settle the Medicare lien immediately for $3,688.31.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Board of Overseers punished William by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. June 2013) Paul practices with The DiMento Law Office at 25 Pitman Road in Swampscott, Massachusetts.
