Attorney Carlton Hume of Hartford, CT; Dufus

The state of Connecticut provided Carlton Livingston Hume with a law license in 1993 after he graduated from the University of Connecticut Law School.

The Statewide Grievance Committee found Carlton guilty of the following misconduct.

Carlton’s misconduct arose out of a referral by Judge Patty Pittman who issued a Memorandum of Decision in the matter of Pearson v. Chrostowski in the Judicial District of New Britain. Pearson was represented by Carlton.

The court’s memorandum set forth the chronology of the lawsuit. The defendants filed a request to revise the complaint, so the defendants could move to have it dismissed. Carlton never filed an objection to the defendant’s motion. The court then gave Carlton additional time to answer the lawsuit.

When Carlton failed to comply with the court’s order to file a revised lawsuit, the court dismissed his client’s lawsuit for Carlton’s failure to prosecute the case with reasonable diligence.

Shortly after the dismissal, Carlton filed a Motion to Open Judgment, but his motion was defective and contained incorrect statements as to the status of the lawsuit, and was denied by the court. Subsequently, the court granted Carlton’s Motion to Reopen the lawsuit despite the court’s expressed concerns about Carlton’s lack of due diligence in the matter.

The trial court then scheduled a status conference; however, Carlton failed to appear, which led the court to enter a dismissal of the lawsuit

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Statewide Grievance Committee punished Carlton by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. May 2013) Carlton practices with Hume & Associates LLC at 125 Hungerford Street in Hartford, Connecticut.
