Attorney Mary Shipley of Waxahachie, TX; ethical dwarf

The state of Texas presented Mary Lou Shipley with a law license in 1980 after she graduated from Baylor University Law College.

A panel of the district 7-B Grievance Committee found Mary guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Mary was appointed by the Court of Appeal to appeal a client’s conviction. Mary entered an appearance with the court and filed a motion for a new trial, but allowed the motion to be overruled by operation of law.

Mary then failed to file the notice of appeal or take any remedial measures such as filing an application for a write of habeas corpus seeking authorization to file an out-of-time appeal.

During the time that Mary represented the client, she failed to respond to numerous client inquires regarding the status of the matter.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Mary by gifting her with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. May 2013) Mary practices at 510 West Main Street in Waxahachie, Texas.
