Attorney David Bachman of Woodbridge, CT; ethical gremlin

The state of Connecticut provided David B. Bachman with a law license in 1989.

The Statewide Grievance Committee found David guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, David was hired to represent a client in a civil claim arising out of events involving the client’s car and a business known as Cottman Transmission. David sent a letter to Cottman asserting that his client intended to file a lawsuit. Shortly thereafter, David received a call from a Cottman representative denying any liability.

David then sent the client a letter regarding Cottman’s denial of any liability. In his letter, David asked the client to produce photos of repair bills to document damage to his car. Over the next two years, David took no further action regarding his client’s claims.

When the client contacted David he laughingly claimed that he didn’t file a lawsuit on his behalf because he was ill. David then told the client he would put his legal malpractice insurance carrier on notice of a potential claim. However, the insurance company later stated that their coverage of David was not in effect during the relevant time period.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Statewide Grievance Committee punished David by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. May 2013) David practices at 59 Prichard Sweet Drive in Woodbridge, Connecticut.
