Judge Richard Edelman of Houston; scofflaw, ethically indigent

Judge Richard Edelman sits on the 14th Court of Appeals in Houston.

Texas Ethics Laws limits the expenditure of campaigns funds to legitimate campaign activities and/or official officeholder duties. In other words, campaign funds cannot be used for purposes that are clearly personal in nature.

Despite this legal prohibition, Judge Richard Edelman used campaign funds to pay membership dues for public radio station KUHF-FM in Houston from 2002 through 2004 as set forth below.
  • KUHF FM Radio, 20020503, 100.00, Membership dues for public radio station
  • KUHF FM Radio, 20021029, 100.00, Membership dues for public radio station played in office
  • KUHF FM Radio, 20030602, 88.00, Membership dues for public radio station
  • KUHF-FM Radio, 20031103, 88.00, Membership dues
  • KUHF-FM, 20040102, 88.00, Membership dues
  • KUHF-FM Radio, 20041022, 100.00, Membership renewal
It would be frivolous for Judge Richard Edelman to argue that these expenditures were related to his official judicial duties or were legitimate campaign expenses to promote his election and/or re-election.
