Attorney John Landis of Wilmington, DE; tax cheat

The state of Delaware presented John C. Landis with a law license in 1978.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) found John guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Willfully failed to file and/or pay law practice employer/employee payroll taxes due to the IRS and the state of Delaware over a six (6) year period of time
  2. Failed to prepare monthly reconciliations of check register balances
  3. Failed to prepare monthly listings of client balances for active escrow accounts
  4. Commingled client funds with personal funds
  5. Filed Certificates of Compliance with the Supreme Court for six years wherein he falsely stated he was complying with lawyer recordkeeping requirements
  6. Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
  7. Misconduct involved multiple offenses
  8. Repeatedly engaged in illegal conduct
  9. Filed Certificates of Compliance with the Supreme Court for six years wherein he falsely stated he was filing and paying federal and state taxes
As a consequence of his most recent misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Delaware Supreme Court punished John by gifting him with a complimentary 3-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. April 2013) John practices with the Office of The Public Defender at 500 North King Street Wilmington, Delaware.

How in the world does a government entity such as the Public Defender’s Office justify employing a serial tax cheat like Johnny?
