Judge Jay Patterson previously sat on the 101st District Court in Dallas
Texas Ethics Laws limits the expenditure of campaigns funds to legitimate campaign activities and/or official officeholder duties. In other words, campaign funds cannot be used for purposes that are clearly personal in nature.
In 2001, Judge Jay Patterson illegally gifted a juror by using $525 in campaign funds to “avoid financial hardship” the juror was allegedly suffering from.
This is an outrageous act by Judge Jay Patterson. A judge is prohibited from personally communicating with jurors. Gifting a juror with $525 is in fact a manner in which a judge is communicating with a juror.

If Judge Jay Patterson wanted to wine and dine court staff at Neiman Marcus, then that’s his problem. These expenditures had absolutely nothing to do with Judge Jay Patterson’s official judicial duties and they certainly had nothing to do with any legitimate campaign expenditure.
Do ya think that Judge Jay Patterson ever told any of his court staff that the fancy luncheons he provided to them at Neiman Marcus was actually paid for with campaign funds? Yeah, sure he did! I suppose it gives one a nice feeling to shop at Nieman Marcus when someone else is picking up the tab, right? What a loser!
Dallas Bar Association Praise of Judge Jay Patterson
Sometime after Judge Jay Patterson duped the voters into electing him to the bench, enablers and apologists at the Dallas Bar Association posted a tribute to him.
These enablers had the chutzpah to put forth the following hyperbolic (BS) statements about Judge Jay Patterson on its Web site:
I bet these guys spend a bunch of money purchasing industrial strength knee pads if ya know what I mean.
