Attorney Eleanor Smith of Detroit; lying Dumbo

The state of Michigan presented Eleanor Cattron Smith with a law license in 1979.

The Michigan Attorney Disciplinary Board found Seymour guilty of the following misconduct
  1. Failed to provide competent representation (Dumbo)
  2. Neglected a client’s legal matter
  3. Knowingly made false statements to person appointed as friend of the court
  4. Failed to serve necessary papers on client’s husband
  5. Made false statements to disciplinary investigators
In one matter, Eleanor represented a client in a divorce action. As a result of her gross incompetence, the client’s divorce case was dismissed by the trial court. The client then fired Eleanor; however, even though she was fired, she went ahead and re-filed the divorce action.

Subsequently, the client sued Eleanor in smalls claim court. In an affidavit she filed in the small claims action, Eleanor made several misrepresentations (lies).

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Michigan Attorney Disciplinary Board punished Eleanor by gifting her with a second complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. March 2013), Eleanor practices at 243 Congress Street in Detroit, Michigan.
