The state of North Dakota presented Jo Ann Fulton with a law license in 1990.

The Disciplinary Board found Jody guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Filed a frivolous lawsuit against a defendant that had no merit
  2. Billed clients hourly attorney fee time for time spent by her paralegal
  3. Purchased a Certificate of Deposit (CD) with client funds in the name of her law firm
  4. Commingled client funds with her personal funds
  5. Failed to respond to clients’ requests for information re: her purchase of the CD
  6. Delivered portion of clients’ fund to them with 2 checks that were returned for insufficient funds (rubber)
  7. Counseled her clients on how to unlawfully avoid tax consequences of interest earned from settlement monies

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the North Dakota Supreme Court punished Jo Ann by gifting her with a complimentary 3-year suspension of her law license.
