Attorney Michael Bingham of Phoenix; ethical gnome

The state of Arizona presented Michael Bingham with a law license in 1979 after he graduated from Arizona State University Law School.

The Arizona State Bar found Michael guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

The Maricopa County Superior Court appointed Michael to serve as an arbitrator. The arbitration rules required that Michael set a hearing within a specified period of time, which he failed to do. Opposing counsel filed three separate motions to extend time on the inactive calendar, and also asked that a new arbitrator be appointed.

The trial court granted each of the three continuances and ordered Michael to set or conduct the arbitration hearing on or before a specified date, which Michael failed to do. Finally, the court removed Michael as an arbitrator and ordered that he appear for a show cause hearing for failing to comply with his duties as an arbitrator. Michael then failed to appear at the court ordered show cause hearing.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Arizona Supreme Court punished Michael by gifting him with a complimentary 180-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. January 2013) Michael practices at 3837 East Cortez in Phoenix, Arizona.

Warning: Michael doesn’t carry legal malpractice insurance
