Attorney Stephen Compton of Hartland, WI; convicted druggie

The state of Wisconsin presented Stephen M. Compton with a law license in 1992 after he graduated from Marquette University Law School.

The Office of Lawyer Registration (OLR) found Stephen guilty of the following misconduct.

Stephen was convicted for possession of heroin. After law enforcement authorities executed a search warrant on a Lake Geneva home belonging to his girlfriend who at the time was released on a felony bond that prohibited her from any contact with Stephen. The search revealed cocaine and heroin in the home and in a vehicle driven by Stephen.
Subsequently, Stephen was charged with possession of narcotic drugs, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony bail jumping in connection with this incident. Within days of his arrest, Stephen paid a cash bond to obtain his release from the Walworth County Jail; however Stephen’s girlfriend remained in custody on $10,000 cash bail.
Immediately after he to pick up a bag containing a phone and charger, $10,000 cash, a map to the sheriff’s department, instructions on what she should tell the police if she was questioned, and an additional $500 for her to split with his jailed friend. Stephen’s written instructions to his friend included, in part, that she should give the phone to his friend and tell him to use it to call Stephen and further told she “you can never say I bailed her [girlfriend] out! Never!”
As one would suspect, this wasn’t Stephen’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. Stephen was previously found guilty of misconduct on two occasions for engaging in a variety of misconduct. In those instances, Stephen received a complimentary reprimand and a 60-day suspension of his law license respectively.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme
Court punished Stephen by gifting him with a complimentary 2-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. November 2012) Stephen practices at 1213 Sweetbriar Lane in Harland, Wisconsin.
