Attorney Mark Koehler of Columbus, OH; ethical leprechaun

The state of Ohio presented Mark William Koehler with a law license in 1993 after he graduated from Capitol University Law School.

The Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline of the Ohio Supreme Court found Christopher guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  2. Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  3. Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice law
Mark was hired by Dennis Wilson to probate his wife’s estate and later hired him to probate his brother’s estate and to serve as administrator. Subsequently, Wilson told Mark that an account held in his brother’s name at Key Bank for $13,736.86 was going to be remitted to unclaimed funds within 30 days. Wilson asked Mark to secure these funds and gave Mark verbal authorization to take any necessary steps to do so.

Mark was advised by Key Bank that in order to secure the funds, Mark would have to obtain written authorization from Wilson. Mark then executed a letter of authorization in Wilson’s name. Mark then took his secretary’s notary stamp and notarized the authorization, signing (forging) both his secretary’s name and Wilson’s name. Mark then presented the forged document to Key Bank and received a check for $13,736.68.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Mark by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 180-day suspension of his law license. In truth, the comedians sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court didn’t actually mete out any real punishment to Michael.

Because Attorney Misfits in Ohio are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Mark was never criminally charged for forgery or fraud.

As we speak (ca. November 2012) Mark practices at 2550 Corporate Exchange Drive in Columbus, Ohio.
