Attorney Scott Wineberg of Vernon Hills, IL; ethical misfit

The state of Illinois presented Scott Andrew Wineberg with a law license in 1992.

The Disciplinary Commission found Scott guilty of the following misconduct.

Scott’s misconduct arose while he was working as an Assistant Public Defender representing parents in child custody proceedings.

In one of the custody cases, Scott thought it was acceptable to make unauthorized copies of documents that lawfully belonged to the guardian represented the child.

Specifically, the guardian had mistakenly left three pages of the minor’s medical records relating to the custody case on a copier in the Public Defender’s Office.

When Unethical Scotty found the confidential medical records, he copied the, and took the copies for his own file and personal use.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Scott by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. November 2012) Scott continues to practice in the Vernon Hills, Illinois area.
