Attorney James Beirne of Glendale, CA; unethical idiot

The state of California provided Ivan James Geoffrey Beirne with a law license in 1993 after he graduated from Southwestern University Law School in Los Angeles, which is a 4th tier school dedicated to serving losers that couldn’t get accepted into mainstream schools like UCLA, Pepperdine, USC or Stanford.

The California Bar Court found James guilty of the following misconduct.

James’ problems came about from his ownership of a credit repair business and his relationship with the two other non-attorney owners.

In one matter, James signed Chapter 13 bankruptcy documents prepared by his non-attorney partners, but he never with the client. James allowed the non-attorney partners to consult with his clients and prepare legal documents without his supervision. James absolutely knew that said conduct violated the bankruptcy laws.

One of James’ non-attorney partners wrote a column for a local Filipino newspaper which offered legal advice dealing with bankruptcy, foreclosure and immigration matters. The phone number of the credit repair business was affixed to the column, soliciting calls for free consultations.

James reviewed the articles before they were published, but he explicitly permitted general legal advice to be dispensed by a non-lawyer through the newspaper column.

In another case, James falsely advised a client he could transfer the title of some property to another individual and file for bankruptcy without legal consequences. Subsequently, the client learned from another attorney that such a transfer was illegal. The client who had paid James $2,800 for the sham legal advice was forced to sue James to collect his money. Subsequently, the client obtained a judgment against James for the $2,800; however, James refused to pay the court-ordered judgment.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the supporters for Attorney Misfits sitting on the California Bar Court punished James by gifting him with a 180-day suspension of his law license

As we speak (ca. November 2012) James practices with the Law Office of James Beirne at 520 East Wilson Avenue in Glendale, California.
