Attorney Walter Dumas of Baton Rouge; unethical thief

The state of Louisiana presented Walter C. Dumas with a law license in 1972.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel found Walter guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Failed to return numerous calls from client (victim)
  2. Converted (stole) client funds for personal use
  3. Engaged in conduct involving fraud, dishonesty, deceit or misrepresentation
  4. Failed to acknowledge the wrongfulness of his conduct
  5. Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
  6. Misconduct involved multiple offenses
  7. Failed to account for settlement funds to client
  8. Lied to clients and others regarding disbursement of client settlement funds
  9. Wrote check on insufficient account (rubber)
  10. Failed to deposit client funds in a client trust account as required
  11. Commingled client funds with his personal funds
  12. Failed to properly communicate with clients
In one matter, Walter failed to pay a client’s medical bills after he received a settlement on behalf of the client. The medical bills included $445 due to Southeastern Orthopedics, $674.50 owed to Metropolitan Health Group and $4.58 owed to Denham Springs Physical Therapy.

Walter thought it was acceptable to cash his client’s settlement checks and then use those funds for his own personal use. When the client attempted to contact Walter regarding her settlement funds, he completely ignored, which forced her to employ another attorney in an attempt to collect the funds that she was lawfully entitled too.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Louisiana Supreme Court punished Walter by gifting him with a complimentary 12-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca) November Walter practices at 1261 Government Street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
