Judge John Thompson of San Diego; moron and ethical gremlin Judge John Thompson is one big time moron and ethical gnome who has no
 business sitting on any court in the Country let alone as a Superior Court Judge in San Diego. While Judge John Thompson was presiding over a felony jury trial in 2006, the jury could not come to a unanimous decision. Put simply it was a hung jury.
The normal judicial process for dealing with a hung jury is for the judge to call the jury into court in the presence of the prosecutor and defense counsel and inquire of them whether additional deliberations might be useful. If the foreman of the jury informs the judge that it would not be useful, the judge then announces a mistrial and the jurors are excused.
Since Judge John Thompson was also acting as a defacto (Wannabee) prosecutor in the case, he decided that it was time for him to take remedial action to assure that a guilty verdict was handed down by the jury.
Being the certified moron and ethical twerps that he clearly is, Judge John Thompson then illegally met with jurors on six (6) occasions in order to provide them with advice on what it would take to find the defendant guilty.
  Judge John Thompson engaged in these illegal contacts with the jury without ever giving any notice to the prosecutor and more importantly to the defendant and/or his attorney. Therefore, Judge John Thompson knowingly and intentionally violated the defendant’s constitutionally protected due process rights.
Magically, after Judge John Thompson had given the jurors advice and instructions on how to convict the defendant, the jury came back with a guilty verdict.
One can only imagine the glee that Judge John Thompson felt when his illegal conduct bore fruit. However, the Court of Appeals wasn’t impressed with Judge John Thompson’s illegal conduct when it unanimously reversed the conviction based on his egregious misconduct.
Of course the overburdened taxpayers of California were forced to pay tens-of-thousands of dollars for the unethical and moronic conduct of Judge John Thompson.
Subsequently, an ethics complaint was lodged against Judge John Thompson with the California Commission on Judicial Performance.
As expected, the enablers and apologists at the Judicial Commission punished Judge John Thompson by rewarding him with a “severe private admonishment.” Whew, I hear that these private admonishments are like really painful.
Unfortunately, Judge John Thompson remains on criminal bench in San Diego as we speak (ca. September 2009). |
