Attorney Robert Simon of Portland, OR; ethical loser

The state of California provided Robert Samuel Simon with a law license in 1997 after he graduated from Lewis & Clark University Law School in Oregon.

The California Bar Court found Robert guilty of the following misconduct.

Robert admitted that he failed to perform legal services competently in at least two matters.

In the first matter, Robert helped a client obtain a land use permit when he did not possess the legal knowledge necessary to handle the matter. He illegally executed a notary without witnessing the people’s signatures. He then recorded the deeds he illegally notarized and filed an application for a land use permit and then record deeds transferring title back to the original owners.

In another matter, Robert was hired to have a judgment lien against his client’s home vacated. Without giving the lien-holder notice of his intention to appear before the trial court, Robert appeared in court, leading the court to vacate the lien, thereby allowing his client to refinance his home. When the court learned of Robert’s deceit, it reinstated the lien against his client’s home.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the California Bar Court punished Gilbert by gifting him with a complimentary 60-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. October 2012) Robert practices at Sellwood Station in Portland, Oregon.
