Judge James Jordon of Dallas; moron, scofflaw, ethical dwarf

Judge James Jordon is presently the presiding judge of the 160th Civil District Court in Dallas. Previously, Judge James Jordan sat on the 44th District Court via an appointment in 1986.

It would seem that Judge James Jordan is not only a certified moron but an accomplished scofflaw and of course an ethical gnome.

From April 2008 through June 2009, Judge James Jordan received $5,693.22 as mileage reimbursements from his campaign coffers. This would mean that Judge James Jordan claimed that he purchased somewhere around 2,120 gallons of fuel. At 22.mpg, Judge James Jordan would have driven nearly 47,000 miles.

According to Texas Ethics Laws, each of the 47,000 miles that Judge James Jordan drove must have specifically related to official court duties and/or legitimate campaign activities. This claim is rather difficult to swallow when one reviews the airfare and rental car costs Judge James Jordon billed to his campaign during the same time frame, which are as follows:
  1. Jordan, James, 20090121, $268.95, Mileage
  2. Jordan, James, 20090406, $66.00, Mileage
  3. Jordan, James, 20090618, $97.87, Mileage
  4. Jordan, James, 20081031, $98.28, Mileage
  5. Jordan, James, 20081031, $297.77, Mileage
  6. Jordan, James, 20080930, $451.04, Reimbursement Mileage
  7. Jordan, James, 20081012, $190.14, Reimbursement Mileage
  8. Jordan, James, 20081020, $403.30, Reimbursement Mileage
  9. Jordan, James, 20081025, $820.44, Reimbursement Mileage
  10. Jordan, James, 20080721, $176.75, Mileage
  11. Jordan, James, 20080818, $606.28, Mileage Reimbursement
  12. Jordan, James, 20080822, 168.48, Mileage
  13. Jordan, James, 20080910, $802.95, Reimbursement Mileage
  14. Jordan, James, 20080402, $420.12, Mileage
  15. Jordan, James, 20080925, $585.00, Mileage
In addition to the mileage charges above, Judge James Jordan also billed his campaign for 29 flights within Texas along with 8 car rentals as described below.
  • $6,616 for 29 flights on Southwest Airlines (all involving Texas destinations)
  • $735 for 8 car rental charges (all involving rentals in Texas)
In addition, Judge James Jordan billed his campaign for $116.14 for fuel on several occasions, all of which was purchased in Texas. Clearly, it would be illegal to collect for fuel charges while at the same time being paid for mileage.

I don’t want to be too harsh on Judge James Jordan by suggesting that he should know the law, right? After all he’s just a judge!
