Attorney Michael Keefe of Portland, ME; ethical twerp

The state of Maine presented Michael G. Keefe with a law license in 1998 after he graduated from the University of Maine Law School.

Panel E of the Maine Grievance Commission found Michael guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Failed to act with reasonable diligence (slacker)
  2. Failed to communicate with client
  3. Failed to expedite litigation
Ms. Tingley hired Michael to represent her in two distinct family court matters. At that time she paid Michael a $3,500 fee that he claimed was nonrefundable.

By the time Ms. Tingley filed her complaint with the Grievance Commission, Mike had performed insufficient work on her legal matters. In addition, Mike failed to respond to repeated inquires from Ms. Tingley as to the status of both legal matters.

After the ethics complaint was filed, Mike was forced to refund the entire $3,500 to Ms. Tingley along with admitting he was basically a loser.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the grievance panel punished Michael by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (Sept 2012) Michael practices at 80 Exchange Street in Portland, Maine.
