Attorney Benjamin Butler of Chicago; convicted of public sex act

The state of Illinois presented Benjamin Butler with a law license in 2004. Benjamin also received a law license from the state of Wisconsin in 2004.

The Attorney Disciplinary Commission found Benjamin guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Committed a criminal act
  2. Engaged on conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice law
  3. Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  4. Engaged in conduct tending to bring the legal profession into disrepute
Benjamin was arrested in Brooklyn, Wisconsin and charged with one felony count of 2nd degree reckless endangerment and one count of Sexual Gratification in Public along with committing an act of sexual gratification in public involving the sex organ of one person and the mouth of another contrary to Wisconsin law.

Benjamin’s problem began when he agreed to attend a weekend reunion at Addison’s summer house in Green Lake, Wisconsin, which involved his attorney friend Stephen Addison. In preparation for the trip, Benjamin picked up supplies, including beer, vodka, whiskey and other alcoholic beverages.

Benjamin and his friends spent time socializing and boozing it up. They then went to the Goose Blind tavern where they consumed more alcoholic beverages. They then left the Goose Blind and traveled to Berts, another tavern located in Ripon, Wisconsin. They again consumed additional alcoholic beverages.

Shortly before Berts closed, Benjamin met a woman, Dawn Paez on the dance floor. After leaving Berts, Paez agreed to drive Benjamin and Addison to Stephen’s summer home in Green Lake. A few blocks from Stephen’s Green Lake home, Paez pulled her car into the boat landing and put her car in park. After parking the car, Paez and Stephen engaged in sexual activity on the hood of her care.

He was subsequently convicted on one felony count and two misdemeanor counts and sentenced to 30 days in jail and to complete 300 hours of community service.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Benjamin by gifting him with a complimentary 30-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. September 2012) Benjamin practices with Collins, Bargione & Vukovich at 1 North LaSalle Street in Chicago, Illinois.
